WIP Wednesday

I can't remember the last time I posted on Lee's WIP Wednesday, but it has been more than a month or two. Never mind, the most important is I'm back.

At the moment I've only got  two projects going  but i'm already thinking about another one. Ok, I've got some UFO's in my cupboard.

The first one is my applique table runner. I'm using a pattern from Kim Diehl but I've introduced some alterations to the original project which was a quilt.

The other is a scrappy table topper also from Kim Diehl. i'm using my leftover scraps as I'm on a very strict fabric diet ( money shortage).

This is what I've achieved so far. I don't know if I'll make the square version or keep it rectangular.
time will tell and probably I will have an answer next week.

Hugs,

Teresa

A very late applique Thursday

I've finished the three applique blocks and sawn them together. I added two borders, a dark one for contrast and a dotted cream one. As I'm not following the pattern, I'm making a table runner and not the quilt I'll have to make some alterations on the outside border as it isn't as large as the original. So far I'm sewing the stems, then I'm going to applique a flower and some leaves on each end.

Today I'm linking with Angie's "Applique Thurday" for the first time, forgive me for being so late
If you like to share your applique projects just click on the link above.
Have a nice week-end,
Hugs,
Teresa

Quilting chemistry

When I was in high school, I had to  study the Periodic Table of Elements. I always liked chemistry and I love sewing so it was with great surprise that I found this new Periodic Table in my bloggy visits around the web. The Periodic Table of Sewing Elements. It's  just wonderful.
Carla of the Scientific Seamstress created this awesome Periodic Table to decorate her sewing room and she offers it as a free download so you can print a larger version.Just click HERE.

I've been sewing...

Last week I made a purse organizer for my daughter. She loved it and so did her friends. One of them commissioned an organizer. She asked for  black an blue and this is what I came up with

I chose the black and white polka dot fabric for the outside and the colored dots in a black background for the inside and outer pockets

For the inner pockets I chose a light blue with tiny white dots, I also used a decorative stitch on the pocket borders, A big button and it was finished!

But then I realized I hadn't one myself. Searched for some more fabric and ...voilá , I made a purse organizer for me too.
I'm a happy girl!

Murphy's ( quilting ) Laws

I'm sure many of you have read many of Murphy's Laws, I recently found that there are also Murphy's Laws for quilters. I found them in a quilter site in the internet.
When I first read them I immediately found myself in some of those situations, I'm sure you will too.

Purse Organizer

Everybody knows that us women want to carry half the world in our bags. I'm no different and neither is my daughter. Her purse seems a black whole, she can never find anything.
One of these days she saw some purse organizers in the internet and asked me if I could make her one. she searched a bit more and found a pattern she liked.

I added a button so it can be closed (for safety)

It didn't take long to make. I used some Fat quarters from a Designer Select Bundle I got from Fat Quarter Shop, she chose them of course!

It has five inner pockets and three outside pockets but we can make the alterations we want according to the stuff we want to put in them.
In a whisker she got all her stuff into it and now when she wants to change her bag, she only has to grab the organizer and everything will go with it. Easy!!!

Friday Night With Friends

Last night was the first FNWF of 2013, hosted by the lovely Cheryll.
I couldn't miss it for the world!

I dedicated my FNWF to needle turn appliqué. I almost finished the whole block but I'll have to sew the little circles today.

This is a pattern by Kim Diehl, I'm doing a table runner using three blocks.

I'm thinking about doing some sashing and then I'll appliqué some more flowers on the border.
Until the next month.

Do you know a better way to start 2013?

My kids are grew up so fast that I almost didn't notice. This year they spent New Year's Eve away wtih their friends and guess who stayed at home? Yeah, me my DH and our dog Blackie.
Well, I didn't mind at all, we had a wonderful dinner, I love to cook, and spend a cozy night by the T.V.
The next day I woke up early ( I always do) and as I had nothing better to do after my breakfast I sneaked into my sewing corner ( It's such a small place that I don't think I can call it a sewing room) and started my year sewing. Can you think of a better way...

I cut more of my scraps and made a couple of nine patch and snow balls

Hope you all have a great 2013!!!
